Andrew Pergam

Former Director of Global Strategic Initiatives, Facebook

Andy Pergam joined Facebook in July 2019 as Director, Global Strategic Initiatives. The team helped advise on and lead in critical issue areas like content governance, climate and Covid.

Andy is also co-founder of Spark Camp, an event series that gathers leaders in media, technology and other industries for a series of important and intimate conversations throughout the year.

Andy spent two decades in the news business: He was most recently Vice President, News Operations and New Ventures at McClatchy. In that role he directed teams that coordinate news coverage across platforms, manage digital and print publications and reimagine journalism efforts across the company. He also designed and led McClatchy’s video operation, the company’s global partnerships and managed of its venture investments.

Andy joined the company in 2014 as Head of Video to develop a comprehensive video initiative focused on editorial, product and revenue opportunities. The team expanded to include the Creative Lab (McClatchy’s in-house branded content studio), McClatchy Studios (which produced docuseries on streaming providers) and the McClatchy New Ventures Lab.

Prior to joining McClatchy, he was a Senior Editor and the Director of Video at The Washington Post, leading long-term strategy and overseeing day-to-day operations. He was an on-air reporter for many years and created online programming for a division of NBC Universal, before running the digital operations of an NBC-owned property.

Andy earned a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and graduated from Johns Hopkins University. He lives in California with his wife and daughter.
